Creating a brand steeped in tradition, quality and culture.

Bocallena produces fresh-made authentic Hispanic cheeses and places an emphasis on celebrating tradition, and gathering with friends and familia.

We were tasked with naming and positioning the brand for success in the Colorado Hispanic market, to create a visual identity and packaging that does justice to the high-quality product, and stands out amongst the competition. It was crucial that we took into account the values of their consumers and how they shop in order to speak in an authentic way that resonates.

“The name Bocallena is an informal combination of the words mouth and full in the Spanish language. Combining them creates a unique, ownable name that speaks to the indulgent quality of their cheese. The colors and typography are inspired by traditional Mexican rotulos, or hand painted advertising signs typically found on the side of buildings and markets. The pattern is a modern take on talavera or Mexican tile work and the logo is created in a style reminiscent of the way animals are depicted in Aztec glyphs and Alebrijes . The idea was to take traditional art and culture and bring it to a modern place in the dairy space.”
